OBC™ (Oxygen BioChem)

A Redox Tech® product, available through Carus Europe.
Dual-Mechanism ISCO Reagent for Chemical Oxidation and Long-Term Bioremediation Support.

Product Overview

OBC™ (Oxygen BioChem) is a powerful, two-in-one in situ chemical oxidation (ISCO) reagent designed to rapidly destroy a wide range of organic contaminants while simultaneously supporting long-term biological treatment. Formulated as a blend of sodium persulfate and calcium peroxide, OBC delivers both immediate oxidative power and sustained oxygen release, making it ideal for sites needing fast results with consistent long-term performance.

Developed for versatility and field efficiency, OBC is effective on petroleum hydrocarbons, chlorinated organics, fuel oxygenates, and other challenging contaminants — providing a robust, integrated approach to subsurface remediation.

Features & Benefits

Rapid Chemical Oxidation

Sodium persulfate provides strong oxidizing action, quickly breaking down contaminants such as TPH, PAHs, BTEX, MTBE, chlorinated compounds, and more.

Two-Stage Treatment in One Product

OBC initiates fast chemical destruction followed by sustained biological oxidation, offering both immediate and lasting remediation benefits.

Wide Contaminant Range

Effective on petroleum hydrocarbons, solvent-related contaminants, fuel additives, chloromethanes, PCBs, chlorinated alkenes, and more.

Long-Term Oxygen Supply

Calcium peroxide slowly decomposes to release oxygen and alkalinity, supporting extended aerobic bioremediation after the primary oxidation event.

Extended Subsurface Stability

Activated persulfate remains available in the aquifer for weeks to months, maintaining oxidation potential and improving treatment reliability.

Ideal for Complex Sites

Useful where both aggressive mass removal and long-term polishing are needed — particularly at sites with mixed or persistent contamination.

How It Works

OBC™ combines two synergistic mechanisms:

1. Chemical Oxidation

  • Activated sodium persulfate produces sulfate radicals, among the strongest oxidants available for in situ treatment.
  • These radicals rapidly break down organic contaminants into simpler, non-toxic compounds.

2. Biological Oxidation

  • Calcium peroxide provides a slow-release source of hydrogen peroxide, oxygen, and alkalinity.
  • The released oxygen supports aerobic microorganisms, enabling continued biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons long after initial ISCO treatment.

This dual-pathway process ensures both rapid contaminant removal and long-term site attenuation.

Applications

OBC™ is effective for treating a wide variety of contaminants, including:

  • Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)
  • BTEX
  • PAHs
  • MTBE and ETBE
  • PCBs
  • Pentachlorophenol
  • Chlorinated alkenes
  • Chloromethanes
  • 1,4-Dioxane

Suitable for:

  • Source zones
  • Dissolved plumes
  • Hotspot reductions
  • Oxidation + bioremediation treatment trains
  • Sites requiring both fast-acting and long-term treatment approaches

Delivery & Handling

OBC™ is supplied as a blend that is:

  • Easy to mix with water
  • Compatible with standard injection equipment
  • Suitable for direct-push injections, wells, or recirculation systems
  • Designed for both shallow and deep subsurface applications

Its stable formulation ensures predictable field handling and sustained performance in a range of geological conditions.

Technical Support

Carus Europe provides:

  • Site evaluation and dosing recommendations
  • Delivery method and injection planning
  • Support for treatment train design (ISCO → bioremediation)
  • Field guidance and performance monitoring suggestions

Our remediation experts work closely with environmental consultants to ensure effective, streamlined deployment of OBC™ in the field.
