ABC-Olé®

A Redox Tech® product, available through Carus Europe.
Emulsified Fatty Acid Ester for Anaerobic Bioremediation.

Product Overview

ABC-Olé® is an emulsified fatty acid ester substrate engineered to support anaerobic bioremediation of chlorinated solvents and related contaminants in soil and groundwater. Designed as a high-performance alternative to traditional emulsified vegetable oils (EVO), ABC-Olé provides a balanced blend of long-lasting carbon, buffering agents, and fast-acting components to establish and sustain strong reducing conditions.

With excellent mobility and stability in the subsurface, ABC-Olé is well-suited for sites where maintaining an effective, long-term electron donor source is critical for complete reductive dechlorination.

Features & Benefits

Optimized Fatty Acid Ester Blend

Contains 30–55% fatty acid esters, providing a reliable and durable carbon source for sustained microbial activity.

Formulated for High-Permeability Aquifers

Engineered to remain effective even in areas with higher groundwater flow, ensuring persistent availability of electron donor.

Balanced Chemistry for Predictable Performance

Includes buffering and fast-acting components to quickly establish favorable conditions for anaerobic microbes.

Supports Complete Reductive Dechlorination

Promotes the biological breakdown of chlorinated ethenes and other compounds all the way to non-toxic end products.

Improved Stability and Distribution

The emulsified structure enhances subsurface migration, ensuring consistent contact with contaminated zones.

How It Works

ABC-Olé® delivers an emulsified carbon substrate into the subsurface, where it slowly breaks down and releases hydrogen—the electron donor required for microbial reductive dechlorination. This process supports naturally occurring bacteria capable of sequentially transforming chlorinated solvents through their complete degradation pathway.

The formulation helps maintain stable anaerobic conditions over extended periods, giving microbial communities the environment they need for efficient and reliable contaminant reduction.

Applications

ABC-Olé® is effective for anaerobic bioremediation of:

  • Chlorinated solvents
    • PCE, TCE, DCE, VC
    • Chlorinated ethanes
    • Chlorinated methanes
  • Pesticides
  • Industrial solvents
  • Other contaminants treated via reductive pathways

Suitable for treating both source zones and dissolved-phase groundwater plumes.

Delivery & Handling

ABC-Olé® is provided as a pumpable liquid emulsion that can be injected through:

  • Direct-push points
  • Injection wells
  • Recirculation systems

Its flowable formulation makes it straightforward to handle in the field, and its natural, biodegradable ingredients make it safe and environmentally responsible.

Technical Support

Carus Europe offers:

  • Dosing calculations
  • Application design
  • On-site use guidance
  • Integration into multi-step remediation strategies

Our remediation specialists provide project-specific support to ensure optimal performance and predictable long-term results.
