RemZeo® Iron Zeolites

Two-Stage Adsorption & Oxidation System for In Situ Contaminant Destruction

Product Overview

RemZeo® is an advanced, patented iron-modified zeolite suspension engineered for the in situ treatment of organic contaminants in groundwater. Designed to combine high-capacity adsorption with catalytic oxidation, RemZeo creates a reactive treatment zone capable of immobilizing and degrading a wide range of pollutants—all under natural pH conditions.

This two-stage approach provides both rapid contaminant removal and long-term oxidative regeneration, making RemZeo an ideal solution for challenging sites where conventional oxidants or carbon-based systems may be less effective.

Features & Benefits

Dual-Action Performance

RemZeo® first adsorbs organic contaminants onto its iron-modified zeolite surface, then enables in situ oxidation via a low-concentration hydrogen peroxide application.

High Mobility & Permanent Deposition

The colloidal suspension moves easily through aquifer materials and anchors in place to form a stable reactive barrier.

Regenerable Treatment Zone

The zeolite surface can be reactivated multiple times using dilute hydrogen peroxide, extending system performance without re-injection of solids.

Effective at Natural Groundwater pH

Operates under neutral pH conditions, avoiding the acidification required for traditional Fenton systems.

Fast and Upfront Contaminant Reduction

Rapid adsorption significantly reduces dissolved concentrations shortly after injection.

Ideal for Complex or Persistent Contaminants

Useful for compounds that resist natural attenuation or are difficult to treat with single-mode technologies.

How It Works

RemZeo® leverages a two-step remediation process:

  1. Adsorption Phase
Injected iron-zeolite particles form a permeable reactive zone that captures contaminants through rapid sorption.
  2. Oxidation Phase
After adsorption equilibrium is reached, a dilute hydrogen peroxide solution is injected.
    • The iron clusters on the zeolite surface catalyze Fenton-like reactions.
    • Hydroxyl radicals form and oxidize the adsorbed contaminants.
    • The reactive surface is regenerated, restoring adsorption capacity.

This cyclical process enables both long-term immobilization and active degradation inside the aquifer.

Applications

RemZeo® is effective for groundwater treatment of:

  • Petroleum hydrocarbons
  • BTEX
  • PAHs
  • Halogenated and chlorinated organics
  • MTBE and other fuel additives
  • Phenols and nitroaromatic compounds
  • Source zones and dissolved plumes

It can be used to create:

  • In situ reactive barriers
  • Source treatment zones
  • High-performance polishing barriers
  • Treatment layers in mixed contaminant sites

Delivery & Handling

RemZeo® is provided as a liquid suspension designed for:

  • Direct-push injection
  • Injection wells
  • Low- to moderate-pressure delivery
  • Large-scale barrier installation or targeted hotspot treatment

The product requires on-site dilution but no complex activation. After the adsorption phase, hydrogen peroxide may be injected periodically to restore zeolite reactivity and extend system performance.

Technical Support

Carus Europe provides full technical assistance, including:

  • Design consultations
  • Dosing and injection planning
  • Field support during installation
  • Regeneration sequencing guidance
  • Integration with combined remedies (e.g., ISCO, bioremediation, or adsorption-based platforms)

Our specialists help ensure that RemZeo® is optimally deployed for maximum efficiency and long-term treatment success.
